Essentially acquiring another All-Star for the second half stretch, the Golden State Warriors are in the middle of one of their patented runs, and that could be extended now that DeMarcus Cousins is back on the floor.

The Dubs take an eight-game winning streak into Thursday’s encounter with the Washington Wizards, and they are 2-0 since Boogie returned from his nearly year-long recovery from an Achilles injury. Golden State goes for the season sweep after beating the Wiz by 22 points in Oracle back in October.

Odds Analysis

The Warriors look poised to pull away from the rest of the Western Conference with everything falling into place. Having Cousins in the lineup gives them a boost, but so does the continued hot hand of Klay Thompson, who had been struggling with his shot earlier in the season. The Dubs won their eighth straight knocking off the Lakers on Monday with five of the victories by at least 18 points and two by more than 30.

Not losing a game on the road in over a month has helped the surge. The Warriors seek their eighth consecutive win away from home as they continue their five-game road trip. They blasted the LA teams to get the excursion underway and their 15 road wins are tied for the most in the Association.

The Wizards were plodding along feeling sorry for themselves after All-Star John Wall was lost for the season while Markieff Morris and Dwight Howard have seen little floor time. But a funny thing happened on their way to a lottery pick; the Wizards started winning games. And it doesn’t take much to creep into one of the bottom playoff spots in the East. Washington has won seven of 10, with victories over East powers Philadelphia and Milwaukee tossed in.

Warriors

With Stephen Curry scoring only 11 points you’d think the Warriors would be vulnerable. But that’s the beauty of having five All-Stars in your starting lineup. If one has an off-night, the others are there to pick him up. Rarely if ever will we see all of them stumble at the same time, and that’s what makes the Dubs so dangerous. Curry was 3 of 12 from the field against the Lakers, but Thompson picked up the slack by knocking down 10 straight threes to open the game totaling 44 points in 130-111 victory.

It appears as though Thompson has worked his way out of a shooting slump that dogged him earlier in the season. He ended the Lakers game hitting 10 of 11 triples and is shooting 52.2 percent from distance over the last 11 games. It was just a matter of time for one of the best pure shooters in the game and his 30.3 percent clip from the previous 14 contests was just a sidenote. The Warriors have a way of finding the hot hand and right now that’s attached to the arm of Thompson, making him a candidate to exceed his point total on a prop at BookMaker.eu.

Wizards

I don’t think Scott Brooks thought his team would actually be sniffing a playoff spot at this point in the season. But here they are more than halfway through the season that’s seen their best player Wall shelved since before the start of the new year and their big offseason acquisition Howard appear in only nine games and none since November. Could it be that teams are overlooking the Wizards? I doubt that’s the case any longer after they beat the Buck and Sixers in back to back games

The Wizards are coming off their best showing of the season in a 101-87 win over Detroit, where they held the Pistons to 30 percent shooting in the first half and just over 40 percent for the game. It was the fewest points the Wiz have allowed this season. And they got contributions from nearly everyone with all five starters and seven players total scoring double figures. Another effort like that will be needed to have any chance against the Warriors.

That strong defensive showing the last time out was the exception and not the rule for the Wizards, so don’t expect this game to lack for points. Washington has the edge on the bench, but that’s about it. That could help the home team with a late back door cover after the Warriors’ starters slice and dice. I can’t see the Wiz getting a win in this one and the 9-point spread on the NBA betting line seems much too low given how the Dubs are playing.

NBA Score Prediction: Warriors 118, Wizards 110
