Why Tapwrit Can Win the Belmont Stakes – Pros and Cons - Latest Odds

Tapwrit may be able to win the 2017 Belmont Stakes at 7/1 odds.

Pros - He finished 1st in two of three previous graded races before stumbling at both the Blue Grass and Kentucky Derby.  He is trained by the great Todd Pletcher, who is also racing a bigger long shot in Patch. There is also a home track advantage.

Cons – He finished 6th at the Kentucky Derby and, before that, 5th at the Blue Grass.

Quick Thoughts – Tapwrit skipped the Preakness and enters this race relatively fresh.  His 6th place finish at the Kentucky Derby was on a sloppy track.  Indications are Saturday’s track should be dry.

“Any time you are at your home base, it gives you a bit of an advantage,” Pletcher said. “I don’t know if the mile and a half suits our training style or what, but it seems like it’s been good for us.”
