Irish War Cry may be able to win the 2017 Belmont Stakes at 4/1 odds.
Pros – The “good” version of Irish War Cry can win this race. Though he finished poorly in the Kentucky Derby, no horse had ever won from that post position and the track conditions were less than favorable with the rain. Victories in the Holy Bull and Wood Memorial. Likes to run well every other race it seems.
Cons – Erratic and you just don’t know which version of Irish War Cry will show up at the Belmont Stakes. His price has little value where we are concerned.
Quick Thoughts – Irish War Cry is trained by Graham Motion.
“He looked good. Everything went very smoothly,” Motion said of his recent practice run at Belmont. “He was great. Alice said he was looking around a little bit, but he's very sensible. He's not a complicated horse. He kind of takes things in stride, except for maybe Churchill where there was so much going on.
“It's a lot quieter and more settled than it was at Churchill, when it was so busy,” he added. “I think it got him a little bit wound up at Churchill with all that was going on. It's nice to be able to come into our own barn and do our own thing, and stay with the system.”
