Zynga Shares Rise With UBS Upgrade to ‘Buy’

Social gaming giant Zynga witnessed its biggest share price surge in nearly a year Tuesday thanks to a positive upgrade.

UBS raised its rating on the game maker's stock to "buy" from "neutral," saying Zynga's core operations had begun to stabilize under the new management team and that its $527 million acquisition of mobile game developer NaturalMotion would result in more scale and innovation at Zynga.

Wynn Approved for Online Gambling License in New Jersey: Uncertain of Plans

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) - In the decades since he left Atlantic City for the more prosperous sands of Las Vegas, casino mogul Steve Wynn has repeatedly considered a return here, only to decide against it.

This may be another one of those instances.

New Jersey gambling regulators have approved Wynn to offer an Internet gambling site in the state where he once ruled the roost. But a Wynn spokesman said plans by Wynn Interactive to offer online gambling in New Jersey are on hold as it studies the fledgling market.

Super Bowl 48 a Success for Vegas, Bookmakers

The final tallies are out and Super Bowl 48 turned out to be a big win for Las Vegas sportsbooks and offshore bookies.

Gambling911.com had already discussed how the largest bets had money coming in on the Denver spread and UNDER 47.5, both of which went in favor of the bookies.

Poll Finds More New Jersey Residents Prefer Pot Over Online Gambling

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) - A new poll finds more New Jersey residents want to smoke pot than gamble over the Internet.

A Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll finds 41 percent of respondents would support smoking marijuana recreationally if it became legal.

That compares to only 32 percent who support gambling over the Internet, which is legal in New Jersey now.

The poll finds support for online gambling has fallen, even as it enters its third full month and more than 150,000 online gambling accounts have been set up in the state.

China Gambling Propels Wynn's 4Q Profit

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Wynn Resorts Ltd. said Thursday that its fourth-quarter profit nearly doubled on gains in Macau, the only place in China where casino gambling is legal.

Net income for the October-December period came to $213.9 million, or $2.10 per share, from $111.4 million, or $1.10 per share, in the same months in 2012.

Excluding special items, Wynn made $2.27 per share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $1.72 per share.

Caesars May Bid for Revel Casino

(Bloomberg) - Caesars Entertainment Corp. is considering making a bid for Revel Casino Hotel, the Atlantic City, New Jersey, property that went through bankruptcy last year, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

A bid from Caesars isn't certain, said the people, who asked not to be named because deliberations are private. Offers for the property, which opened in April 2012, are due in two weeks, and no negotiations are under way, they said.

Kentucky Baptists to Fight Gambling Expansion in State

(Associated Press) - The Kentucky Baptist Convention is speaking out against expanded gambling in a new radio ad aimed at stirring grassroots opposition to legalizing casinos.

The ad is debuting today on Christian radio stations. It features the Baptist Convention's executive director, Paul Chitwood. He says casino operators want to "cash in on the misery" of others.

Numerous customers received emails over the weekend notifying them that their accounts would be closed if they did not provide pertinent personal details.  Those emails turned out to be fake.

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (Associated Press) — A state lawmaker believes his latest bid to expand Illinois gambling may finally bear fruit now that the state's thorny pension crisis has been resolved to the satisfaction of the governor who twice spiked measures that would have added casinos.

State Rep. Robert Rita, a Democrat from the Chicago suburb of Blue Island, effectively was to launch his quest Tuesday with a meeting at East St. Louis' Casino Queen, where he was to seek input from the region's casinos, a horse track and local officials.

Singer Susan Boyle Applies for Job With Bookmaker Ladbrokes

Say what? 

Could one of the best voices in music today, Susan Boyle, have fallen on hard times?

People Magazine has revealed that Ms. Boyle, 52, recently applied for a part time gig at British bookmaker Ladbrokes.

The 16-hour-a-week job at the Blackburn, Scotland shop pays $10 an hour.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes says, "We were as shocked as Simon, Amanda and Piers when Susan asked about the part-time vacancy. She once applied for a job with us before hitting the big time, so it's good to see she's still dreaming the dream of working for Ladbrokes."

Feds Drop Case Against Reputed Mob Boss Who Twice Beat Gambling Charges

PHILADELPHIA (Associated Press) — Federal prosecutors say they won't seek to retry a reputed Philadelphia mob boss who twice beat charges in a gambling and racketeering case.

Joseph Ligambi could have faced a third trial after jurors acquitted him last week of witness tampering while deadlocking on three other charges. But prosecutors filed a motion Monday seeking to dismiss the remaining counts. A judge still has to sign off.

Pennsylvania Explores Online Gambling, Keno

HARRISBURG — (Associated Press) - With top Pennsylvania state lawmakers and Gov. Tom Corbett seeking ways to plug a projected budget deficit, they are considering expanding lottery gambling and, possibly, legalizing online gambling.

Gambling Addicted Former Morgan Stanley Banker Gets Life for Killing Wife

A former product controller at Morgan Stanley has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a UK court.

Manas Kapoor, 35, strangled his wife to death the same day he was to attend a disciplinary hearing after it was discovered he had gambled away millions of dollars belonging to the firm.

Kapoor admitted he was £8,000 in debt and was borrowing from friends and family to support his gambling addiction.

Hearing Scheduled on Illinois Gambling Expansion

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Associated Press) - The lawmaker seeking approval for expanded gambling in Illinois will conduct several hearings to get public input.

Rep. Bob Rita is a Blue Island Democrat. He said Thursday that the first hearing will be Jan. 28 at the Casino Queen riverboat casino in East St. Louis.

Rita took over the expansion plan last spring after Gov. Pat Quinn vetoed past attempts for lacking ethical and legal safeguards.
