Australia to Begin Cracking Down on Online Gambling Sites

CANBERRA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Australia is set to crack down on illegal offshore gambling, with Social Services Minister Scott Morrison flagging a review of betting operators conducting business in Australia.

Morrison said on Monday that while online betting and gambling is a 1.1 billions U.S. dollar industry in Australia, more than 60 percent of operators do not pay tax.

Mobster Son-In-Law of John Gotti $100K Bond Continued

CLEVELAND, Ohio — (Associated Press) - A $100,000 bond was continued today for a reputed mob associate and former son-in-law of mob boss John Gotti who faces charges related to what authorities say is a multi-million dollar scam involving scrap metal and stolen cars.

Fifty-six-year-old Carmine "The Bull" Agnello of Bentleyville was arraigned Friday morning. He's been free on a personal bond since July 17 — two days after his arrest by Cleveland police.

Hockey Player Gets Home Confinement for Role in Illegal Sports Betting Ring

Rochester, N.Y. — Grand Rapids Griffins player Nathan Paetsch has sentenced to eight months of home confinement for being part of an illegal sports betting business that took wagers from other players.

Paetsch (paytch) also must perform 400 hours of community service and spend five years on probation following his sentencing Friday in federal court in Rochester.

Gaming Commission Dismisses ‘AG Wire Tap Room’ Access Claims Against Steve Wynn

BOSTON — (Associated Press) - The top investigator for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission says allegations that retired members of the State Police working for Wynn Resorts had access to a "wire-tap room" in the state attorney general's office are false.

The Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1OeJWlp) that Karen Wells, the agency's director of investigations and enforcement, said Thursday an investigation found "no factual basis" for the accusations.

Good Lord: Priest Charged With Stealing $151K for Gambling Addiction

WICHITA — (Associated Press) - A Kansas priest has been charged with alleging stealing nearly $151,000 from his two parishes and the Catholic Diocese to fund his extensive gambling.

A criminal information filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas charges Father Thomas H. Leland with bank fraud. The court issued a summons for a Sept. 23 initial appearance.

Macau Gambling Revenue Continues to Plunge

Gambling revenue in Macau plunged 35.5 percent in August from a year earlier, sliding for fifteen months in row as China's slowing economic growth exacerbated a slump caused by a broader crackdown on conspicuous spending.

Casino revenues in the world's biggest gambling hub dropped to 18.6 billion patacas ($2.3 billion) a year earlier, matching the 18.6 billion patacas in June, according to data released by the Macau government on Tuesday.

Analysts had forecast a decline of around 36-38 percent.

Nevada Casino Win Down 1 Percent

CARSON CITY, Nev. (Associated Press) -- Baccarat revenues in Nevada casinos continue to disappoint, but better showings among slot machines are helping reduce the hit in state gambling revenues.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported Friday that Nevada casinos kept nearly $923 million of what was gambled in July, a figure that's 1 percent down from the same month last year. That comes as baccarat revenues fell 23 percent to $104 million.

FanDuel Ads Debut on CNN During Big Breaking News Day

Federal Ban on Sports Betting Upheld by Appeals Panel
