Fixed Odds Gamblers Just Stepped Over Murdered Ladbrokes Manager to Play

A Ladbrokes manager lay dead on the floor after being struck with a hammer yet patrons continued to gamble away as if nothing had happened, authorities say.

The incident occurred in Morden, England, south of London.  Customers just feet away were fixated on controversial fixed-odds machines as Andrew Jacovou’s lifeless body lay spread across the floor.

Law Firms, Lobbyists Score Big Payoffs With New Jersey Online Gambling

Cantor Gaming to Pay Largest Fine in Nevada State History

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) - CG Technology, formerly Cantor Gaming, has agreed to pay Nevada gambling regulators $5.5 million to settle a complaint regarding illegal sports betting.

The settlement announced Monday will be the largest in state history.

NJ's Atlantic Club Casino Hotel Now Closed

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. --  (Associated Press) - The embattled Atlantic Club Casino Hotel closed early Monday, a victim of the casino saturation taking place in the Northeast.

About 1,600 people lost their jobs at 12:01 a.m. as the 33-year-old casino shut its doors. Tearful employees embraced one another and exchanged goodbyes.

Blast in Illegal Chinese Gambling Hall Leaves 14 Dead

BEIJING (Associated Press) -- An explosion Monday at an illegal gambling hall in a village in southern China killed 14 people and injured seven others, state media report.

The blast struck at around 2:30 p.m. (0630 GMT) outside the city of Kaili in the poor southern province of Guizhou, the official People's Daily newspaper and Xinhua News Agency said. While the cause of the explosion officially remains under investigation, police believe it was set deliberately and are treating the incident as a crime, People's Daily said.

Colorado Man Indicted for Running Online Gambling Site

BOULDER, Colo. (Associated Press) -- A 62-year-old Boulder County man accused of running an online gambling website for at least three years has been arrested.

The Daily Camera reports ( http://bit.ly/1m0dvb0 ) Larry Kyle Richardson was arrested Friday after a grand jury indicted him on one charge of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act. He is suspected of running an online gambling website from Jan. 1, 2010, through Jan. 8, 2013, "in, or triable in, Boulder County."

Mobster Gets More Than 9 Year Sentence for Pot Distribution

Though his lawyer argued the drug is mainstream, mobster Salvatore Larca has been sentenced to 9.5 years behind bars for running an illegal marijuana distribution business. 

The reputed Genovese crime family member admitted to running the operation from the Bronx, New York.

Cantor Could Pay Over $2 Million in Damages Resulting From Colbert Indictment

Openings Set to Start in Mob Financial Fraud Case

CAMDEN — (Associated Press) - Federal prosecutors will start making their case to jurors that a group of Philadelphia and southern New Jersey mobsters pulled off a white-collar financial fraud scheme.

The trial of Nicodemo Scarfo and six other defendants is scheduled to start Wednesday. Prosecutors say the defendants used threats to take over a mortgage company and then kept the firm’s assets for themselves.

Morgan Stanley Employee Gambled Away Millions of Bank’s Funds, Strangled Wife

A former product controller at Morgan Stanley was terminated by the company after losing millions of dollars due to an “accounting error”.  Investigators also believe Manas Kapoor, 35, strangled his wife to death the same day he was to attend a disciplinary hearing.

Kapoor admitted he was £8,000 in debt and was borrowing from friends and family to support his gambling addiction.

Three UTEP Men’s Basketball Players Ousted For Betting on Games

New Jersey Internet Gambling Accounts Reach 150,000

ATLANTIC CITY — (Associated Press) - The number of Internet gambling accounts created in New Jersey continues to grow and is nearing 150,000.

New Jersey online gambling was authorized last year to give a boost to Atlantic City’s struggling casino industry, which has been beset by increasing competition for the past seven years. It began with a five-day trial period on Nov. 21 and launched publicly on Nov. 25.

Nevada Gaming Control Board Files 18-Page Complaint Against Cantor Gaming

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGC) has filed an 18-page complaint against Cantor Gaming following a lengthy investigation.  A former director of the company was indicted by US law enforcement in late 2012 for his role in an illegal sports betting venture and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy this past summer. Former NFL Player Donald Caldwell Charged With Bookmaking

TAMPA, Fla. – (Associated Press) - Former NFL and University of Florida player Donald “Reche” Caldwell has been arrested by Tampa police on charges of operating an illegal gambling house and bookmaking.

Police say Caldwell was one of three leaders of the operation. Five other men are facing a variety of charges including probation violations, possession of a controlled substance and illegal gambling.

Delaware to Review Gambling Sector

DOVER — (Associated Press) - A panel examining challenges facing Delaware’s gambling industry is close to submitting recommendations for state lawmakers to consider.

The lottery and gaming study commission will convene today at Legislative Hall to review its list of options.

The panel also planned to review an accounting firm’s report on economic and financial benchmarks for Delaware’s three casinos.

Maryland Live Casino to Hire Atlantic Club Employees Following Closure

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - (Associated Press) -- A Maryland casino will hold a job fair next week for soon-to-be laid-off workers at Atlantic City's Atlantic Club Casino Hotel.

Maryland Live! will interview employees of the Atlantic Club who will lose their jobs when it closes Jan. 13. The casino has more than 100 openings across all departments, and says it will eventually need even more workers than that.
