MLB Commissioner on track for Pete Rose decision before end of year
(AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred remains on track to decide Pete Rose's application for reinstatement by the end of next month.
Then Cincinnati's manager, Rose agreed in 1989 to a lifetime ban from baseball after an MLB investigation concluded he bet on games involving the Reds while managing and playing. Rose applied for reinstatement in September 1997 and met with Commissioner Bud Selig in November 2002, but Selig never ruled on Rose's application.
Manfred succeeded Selig in January, and Rose again applied to end the ban. Manfred met with Rose on Sept. 24.
Nightlife Mogul Sam Nazarian Gives Up on Gambling License
LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Nevada gambling regulators won't have Los Angeles nightlife mogul Sam Nazarian to scrutinize anymore.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board recommended Wednesday to allow the entrepreneur to sell his 10 percent stake in the SLS Las Vegas casino-hotel on the Las Vegas Strip and withdraw his application for a gambling license. The recommendation would need separate Gaming Commission approval.

Bookies made out well in Week 9 of the NFL despite a New England cover with 75 percent of the backing.
New England had to cover a rather lofty number of 14 and managed to win by 17. Most books had the Patriots as the single most wagered on side.
Others had Green Bay, who not only failed to cover, they lost outright versus Carolina.
