After an exciting finish in the RBC Heritage last week, the PGA heads to the “Big Easy” for the Zurich Classic. This tournament has had some big names top the leaderboard over the past few years, with Jason Dufner (No. 16 in world) winning in 2012, and recent Masters victor Bubba Watson (No. 4 in the world) taking it in 2011. This year neither player will be joining the field while the highest ranked player will be Justin Rose, who is currently ranked 11th in the world, and he will be joined by just two other top-25 players (Keegan Bradley and Patrick Reed). Last year, Billy Horschel put up a strong 20-under par on the Par 72, 7,341-yard course to take home the trophy. Let’s take a look at a few players in this very shallow field who will have a chance at the win this weekend.
Rickie Fowler (18/1): Fowler put forth a strong effort at The Masters with a fifth-place finish after placing sixth in his previous tournament. He’s had previous success at this tourney when he finished 10th back in 2012, and should be able to use his ability to score on Par-5’s (49.3% birdie or better, 21st on tour) to put him in the running for his second career PGA victory.
John Senden (35/1): Senden is playing much better than he did last season when he made just 16 cuts in 25 events while not being able to place in the top-10 once. This year he already has a victory at the Valspar Championship as well as two other top-eight finishes. His best performance at this event was when he placed 11th back in 2011, but with such a weak field, Senden should be able to make a push at the win
Charles Howell III (45/1): Howell has not placed better than 14th since the Waste Management Open, but he still ranks eighth on the tour while hitting 70.4% of greens in regulation. He also ranks third with a scoring average of 69.7 so far this year, and seems poised to jump back into the winners' circle for the first time since 2007.
