Earnhardt Jr is widely considered among the nicest guys in NASCAR but after another win on Thursday, admitted he could be a bit of a “selfish jerk”.

“It's a mentality, I guess, where you just have to be a selfish jerk, you know?” Earnhardt said. “You can't be like buddying up, ‘Oh, man, let me help this guy a little bit get by this guy for a couple laps. I helped my buddy get clear, now I can start racing again.’ You can't be doing any of that. You have to be racing for yourself.”

The next shortest odds were going towards Jimmie Johnson with a potential payout of $85 for every $10 bet.

Johnson won his first in 2006, the same year he won the first of his six championships.

“To win my first 500, it was the first time I had a title,” Johnson said. “Way back then, it was rookie or youngster Jimmie Johnson. Then all of a sudden, I would go out to driver intros, it was Daytona 500-winning driver Jimmie Johnson. This race is the only race that bestows a title on its winner.
