  • Sean Strickland promises a hefty payout of US$428 for every US$100 bet should he upset Khamzat Chimaev Saturday night

  • Half of the top ten searches coming into the Gambling911 website pertained to this fight 48 hours leading up to it

The oddsmakers at BetOnline have Khamzat Chimaev as a pretty significant favorite to beat Sean Strickland in UFC 328 this Saturday evening, but we should still see plenty of folks backing the underdog as he promises a payout of $428 for every $100 bet.

"This fight is getting some very solid interest among the UFC betting community," remarked our own Payton O'Brien, who has shared some recent data with us.

These are all top 25 search queries coming to the Gambling911.com website as of Friday morning: "strickland vs khamzat", "sean strickland vs khamzat", "strickland vs chimaev", "khamzat vs strickland", "sean strickland vs khamzat chimaev" and "ufc 328 fight card".

"The first four were top ten searches with nearly 48 hours until this fight goes off," O'Brien noted.  "'strickland vs khamzat' had well over 2,000 impressions, meaning a massive number of people searching about UFC 328 ahead of the fight."

O'Brien was quick to point out that not everyone of these searches is related to betting.

"We'll pay special attention to searches pertaining to odds and wagering," she said.  "Those tend to come in as long tail or specific variations."

For his part, Strickland insists he is ready for this fight. Physically, there does not appear to be concern about his conditioning or preparation.

“I feel good. I feel ready. I had a great camp. No injuries — it’s really nice to have no aches or pains. I feel great.”

Earlier indications were that Nassourdine Imavov would be the one most likely to take on Chimaev.

“There’s no one in the division that can beat him besides me,” Strickland said. “Chimaev is the champion, but he’s a f****** dog. I have security here, I’m sure he has security here — you’re such a dog and a coward that you can’t be a man for five days? You’re such a coward.”

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
