Sportsbook.com Line: Le -145, Silva +115

In a match between two older fighters, 35-year-old Wanderlei Silva takes on 39-year-old Cung Le in a middleweight bout. Despite their ages, the two fighters have drastically different levels of MMA experience, with Silva fighting his 47th career bout, compared to Le who is entering just his ninth, and first in the octagon.

The lines are close to neutral for this fight, placing the less-experienced Le as a slight favorite. Although Silva has struggled in recent fights, those were all against top competition; taking on Le is a major step down in class for the veteran, who is seemingly as old as the sport itself.

Silva (33-11-1) fought his first MMA fight 15 years ago, in November of 1996. His career has seen many ups and downs, and has included title fights, such as when he lost to Tito Ortiz for the light heavyweight title in 2000. Most recently, he has lost three of his past four fights, including a 27-second loss to Chris Leben via knockout in his last bout. Still, these fights have been against Leben, Michael Bisping, Rich Franklin and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson – all top contenders. Play on his elite striking ability to pull out this fight against a weaker opponent.

Le (7-1-0) fought as a kickboxer through 2004 before signing with Strikeforce in 2006. He won the Strikeforce middleweight championship in 2006, but this is his first UFC bout. Le’s training in kickboxing makes him a dangerous striker, something he has used to easily defeat most of his weaker opponents. Still, his limited attack style may prove ineffective against the world-class experience of Silva, who will be in good shape to pull off the upset.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
