South Florida was hoping for a lot more this season than a 7-5 record and a trip to the St. Petersburg Bowl but they never lived up to expectations after starting the season 5-0.  The good news for the Bulls is that they are making their fourth straight bowl appearance overall. "There's great programs out there not going to bowl games this year, and our seniors are going to have four bowl rings," coach Jim Leavitt said. "That's a neat deal, and I'm proud of them for that."

SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking Memphis on the Road.

The Bulls really struggled down the stretch to score points as they scored less than 20 points in their last five games including a 13-7 loss at West Virginia.  It has been feast or famine for the Bulls this season as they have scored just over 14 points per game in their losses but almost 35 in their victories.  Quarterback Matt Grothe threw 15 TD passes this season but also threw 14 interceptions.  The news is a little better on the other side of the ball as South Florida's defense was 13th best in the nation and 9th against the run. They should get tested by a Memphis offense that was 18th best in the nation. "I think they are the most active defensive front we've played against," Tigers coach Tommy West said. "They don't blitz much because they don't have to. Their front four makes it happen. We have our work cut out us for, but I think one of the big keys will be how well we run the ball."

Memphis running back Curtis Steele had 1,175 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Memphis is 3-2 all-time in bowl games with the most recent being a 44-27 loss to Florida Atlantic in last season's New Orleans Bowl.  The two teams have split their four meetings with Memphis winning the last one in 2004 by a score of 31-15. Here are more College Football betting stats for Saturday's game. The Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.

The Bulls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Conference USA. The Bulls are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite.  The Bulls are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.

SBG Global Current Line: South Florida -  11.5 ,  Total  54

The Over is 7-3-1 in the Tigers last 11 non-conference games. The Over is 6-1 in the Bulls last 7 non-conference games. The Under is 4-1 in the Bulls last 5 games overall.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
