Baseball's highest paid player, Alex Rodriguez (A Rod) wants the prenuptials in his disastrous marriage enforced.

A Rod responded to the divorce filing by his wife Cynthia. That response was obtained exclusively by the New York Daily News on Wednesday.

Alex Rodriguez agrees with his wife that their marriage is over, but he says her allegations of extramarital affairs aren't relevant to the divorce.

The New York Yankees' All-Star third baseman said Thursday in court papers that his five-year-old marriage to Cynthia Rodriguez is "irretrievably broken." But because Florida is a no-fault divorce state, Rodriguez contends that his wife's claims of affairs are "immaterial and impertinent."

"Husband denies any duty to support wife beyond those obligations specifically set out in the parties' prenuptial agreement," the papers say. What those terms are wasn't immediately known, but apparently they don't suit Cynthia.

A Rod was accused of cheating during his marriage. The final straw was "his relationship with singer Madonna". Both deny having an affair.

The one good news in all of this is that it appears the couple's children will likely not be used as pawns, at least not by A Rod.

He even gives Cynthia props as a mom in the response. "Husband admits and acknowledges that wife is a loving and nurturing mother," the papers say. "Husband is confident that he and wife will be able to continue to work with one another to co-parent their children together and that they will be able to agree upon a time-sharing schedule ... without the need for court intervention."
