Halep was expected to be fine for the start of the French Open after twisting an ankle.

"I feel very confident and coming from Madrid with the title makes me stronger on court, also mentally... I feel great and just want to keep playing and why not try to win this title."

With second-ranked Serena Williams pregnant, she will miss the rest of this tennis season including the French Open.

Elina Svitolina was coming in with the second shortest odds at 8-1 following her Italian Open win.

"Every day I'm just trying to work on my mental part, my physical, my tennis," Svitolina said after that victory. "Everything just came together and I'm very happy that it's happened in such a big tournament."
