NBA Betting Preview

We know the good teams already but when it comes to NBA betting, this time of year we start to witness teams that may have started off sub par begin to gain momentum.  Their odds of winning either the NBA Championship or a Conference Championship have yet to catch up with that momentum.  This is Carrie Stroup reporting for Gambling911.com.

Sportsbook.com is not only offering betting odds on which team will win the 2009 NBA Championship, they also have divisional odds.

The New Jersey Nets were 9-8 at press time, but this team is showing early promise.

From NetsDaily.com:

After a 3-1 road trip and stunning numbers from their young point guard, the Nets were the darlings of the media...and their fans. Then, came the Wizards game and everyone was reminded of how young and inconsistent the Nets are. No one's making excuses and losses to bad teams happen to everyone, but the Nets know they have to reverse what happened Tuesday if they're going to continue to surprise.

What really stands to me though is how the Nets were able to perform so well on their West Coast swing.  Even when they made an appearance in the Finals two years in a row, that West Coast trip was always a thorn in their side (no pun intended Ron Thorn).

Unfortunately, the Nets have a big mountain to climb if they want to catch up with the reigning champion Boston Celtics.  They are 7 ½ games behind.  The Nets would pay $10,000 for every $100 bet at Sportsbook.com if they were to somehow win  a championship in 2009.  A division win pays $2500 for every $100 bet.

The Atlanta Hawks are still hot but they are being overshadowed by the Orlando Magic, which is a good thing for bettors because - while one would have to wager nearly $200 to win $100 on the Magic to win the South division, Atlanta pays nearly $200 for every $100 bet at Sportsbook.com.  They are only 2 games behind Orlando.  Miami still has a winning record.  For the ultimate thrill bet, you can get the Heat paying $700 for every $100 bet to win this division if you lock your wager in now.  They are only 4 games behind and have won their last 2.

In the West, how about the Portland Trailblazers to win the Western Conference championship?  Who would have thought this team was going to be playing so well.  A $100 bet pays $600 should they win the conference and the bet is locked in now.  In case you were wondering, Portland pays $1000 for every $100 bet if they were to win the 2009 NBA Championship title.

The Dallas Mavericks remain under the radar.  They would pay $1000 for every $100 bet just to win a division where they are only 2 games behind Houston.  I'd say this is some pretty darn good value.
