Monday Night Football

This week's Monday Night Football game should be a good one with the Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints, even though both teams are playing at .500.  When all is said and done, one team will have a winning record, the other a losing record .  Packers vs. Cowboys betting odds opened at New Orleans -2 ½ but this game was all over the board heading into Monday afternoon.

It's actually a great middling opportunity if you are lucky enough to be living outside the United States.

Sportingbet.com had the Packers at a +1 ½ line but does not accept US citizens. Sportsinteraction.com had this one as a pick.  If New Orleans were to only win by a single point, both bets would pay out.  The odds of the line falling on a point are much better than your typical middling opportunity due to the numerous combinations possible.  Green Bay has actually beaten New Orleans by one point in this series over the last 10.  They also had a two point win.

Green Bay, however, is 7-3 in this series since 1987.  In recent times these two teams have split the series 2-2.  The home team has won 3-1.

Some of the more intriguing stats heading into this game:  The Packers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.  They are 13-3-1 ATS in their last road games.  They are 14-5 ATS following a Straight Up win.

New Orleans is 0-5 ATS in their last five games following a Straight Up win.

Last Sunday, the Packers moved into a three-way tie for the NFC North lead with a 37-3 rout at home over rival Chicago, while the Saints -- last in the NFC South -- posted their first road win of the season, 30-20 over lowly Kansas City.

With the playoffs still several weeks away, the teams put their results in perspective as they shifted focus to this contest.

"There is a sense of urgency that this game is important and it's certainly important for Green Bay," New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. "I think that after this game next week there's going to be that same urgency because not only the division, but the rest of the NFC is playing pretty well."
