The MLB Picks baseball season rolls into it's second full week of action and as is typically the case has started with a few surprises. In the American League East both of the front runners (Red Sox and Yankees) sit towards the bottom of the MLB Picks division with Baltimore and Toronto at the top. Although it's early and certainly not a reason to panic it will be interesting to see if it holds up as the season progresses. So not to get too far overboard with MLB Picks thinking let's get regrounded and look at how I think the American League East will finish:

First Place Finisher:

New York Yankees: The Yankees are coming off a season where they missed the playoffs for the first time since 1993. As per usual, the Yankees opened up thier pocketbooks and grabbed Mark Teixeira to go along with CC Sabathis, AJ Burnett, and Chien-Mein Wang. The Yanks should have enought talent to finish first in this tough MLB Picks division. The O/U in wins i s 94.5. Recommendation: Take the over 94.5 in wins

Second Place Finisher:

Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox come into this one have losing in the ALCS and have made the post season the last five years in a row. The Red Sox, once regarded as a week MLB Picks pitching team, as three of the most solid starters in the Majors to go along with a top notch bullpen. The one issue in the middle of their lineup. Ortiz faultered last season and no longer has Manny to protect him in the middle. If he doesn't get on track this season it might be tough for Boston's pitching to carry them in the long MLB Picks season. The O/U in wins is 94.5 Recommendation: Take under the 94.5 toal.

Third Place Finisher:

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays come into this MLB Picks season with young talent and even with all of their success of a year ago still didn't have a .300 hitter. Their pitching is young and solid as well. The Rays have built their organization like the Atlanta Braves of old by drafting smartly and building their farm system. Because of their success last season the Rays will not be able to sneak up on anyone in this MLB Picks season. Both the Red Sox and Yankees will be looking to take back control of the AL East which will put some added pressure on this young squad. They are still a very good team however and should coutinue to present a challenge to the establishm ent. The O/U in wins is 88.5. Recommendation: Go under as winning between 81-87 MLB Picks games this year is more like it.

Fourth Place Finisher:

Toronto Blue Jays: The Blue Jays do have talent but unfortunately for them they are getting up in age. Overbay, Zaun, Johnson, Rolen, Eckstein, and Burnett all missed some significant time last season. Their pitching staff is anchored by Roy Halladay who have averaged 7.45 innings per start and has 34 complete games the last six MLB Picks season (more than 20 other MLB Teams) but also battled injuries. With the Blue Jays having to rely on these proven but yet aged players, any injury problems will sink them. The O/U in wins is 78.5. Recommendation: The Blue Jays have had three winning seasons in a row but age will catch them these season. Go under the 78.5.

Fifth Place Finisher:

Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles total number of MLB Picks wins has declined for five straight seasons. The biggest reason for that is their pitching rotation is one of the worst in the Majors. Their only bright spot in the rotation has been Jeremy Guthrie who is off back to back MLB Picks winning seasons. The Orioles offense is about in the middle of the pack in each production category but with a pitching staff that continues to rank nearly last in any pitching category that you look at there isn't much hope for improvement. The MLB Picks decline sh ould continue this season as well. The O/U in wins is 72.

Recommendation: The Orioles no longer can count on the Rays to battle them for last place in the division. So in last they sit and go under the 72 number.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
