14-time gold medal Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps is facing charges following a much publicized incident this past weekend.  Phelps admitted to appearing in photos holding a bong used for smoking weed.

A spokesman for Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, who is known for his tough stance on drugs, said Tuesday the department was investigating.

"Our narcotics division is reviewing the information that we have, and they're investigating what charges, if any, will be filed," said Lt. Chris Cowan, a spokesman for agency.

The photo first shown in British tabloid News of the World on Sunday was snapped during a November party while Phelps was visiting the university, according to the paper.

Phelps issued a public apology on Sunday.  Thus far, he has not lost any sponsorship endorsement deals.

The Olympic swimmer is also a poker protégé of iconic player, Doyle Brunson.  During a trip to Vegas last summer, Phelps spent time honing his skill at the game with Mr. Brunson, a two-time World Series of Poker main event champion.
