The boxing world was on the verge of knowing whether the highly anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will finally take place.  And we have learned it is official.

After months of speculation, Mayweather-Pacquiao will be taking place May 2nd at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The fight was confirmed Friday afternoon.

Oddsmakers at Skybook had  Floyd Mayweather Jr. as a -300 favorite and Manny Pacquiao at +230 for a potential payout of $23 for every $10 bet with an upset.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith had suggested earlier that some parties weren't sold on the fight taking place during the Cinco de Mayo Weekend.  Mayweather’s camp remained adamant about the May 2 date, however.

"As of yesterday afternoon, I heard the deal was pretty much done and everyone is ready to go,” claims the popular broadcast journalist. “Then I reached out to Floyd Mayweather Jr., who reiterated his denial and said that it’s not etched in stone yet. He said that they're close, but it's not done yet.”

“I’m hearing that the hold up is Mayweather himself, who has basically said he doesn’t want to hear all of this nonsense about the fight being staged later on…June, or whatever the case may be."

This will be one of the most wagered on events of the year.
