How Far Can The Connecticut Huskies Go?

There were a number of folks who would rather have had Memphis as the number one seed in place of the Connecticut Huskies.  The Tigers are the most bet on of the number one and number two-seeded teams early on and the favorite to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament outside of the number one-seeded teams.  So do the Huskies deserve more respect?

Robby Maddux of BetUS.com:

"Connecticut (27-4 SU, 11-14-0 ATS) comes into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed for the fifth time in school history despite having lost their final two games of the season, which led to much debate of their top-seed status, as many hoop's fans feel Memphis was more deserving of the No. 1 spot. Much to the chagrin of Huskies fans betting March Madness basketball online, Connecticut finished the season on a dismal 1-6 ATS stumble."

UConn was a -20 ½ favorite versus Tennessee in the first round at BetUS.com.

"Let's not forget, the Huskies were twice ranked No.1 nationally (spending four weeks at the top of the AP poll), had winning streaks of 13 and 11 games, were 13-2 on the road, have an impressive out-of-conference resume and been ranked in the Top 5 all season," Maddux points out.  "They had 14-2 (2-9 ATS) record at home, were 8-1 (6-3 ATS) on the road are 4-1 in neutral-site contests

Three of the four Huskies defeats have come in the past seven games, after losing starting guard Jerome Dyson for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Most of the players on this year's squad have never won a postseason game. Connecticut is 0-5 since beating Washington 98-92 in overtime in the 2006 regional semifinals."

Against The Spread, the Huskies are 0-7 in their last seven NCAA Tournament games.  Ouch!
