On Wednesday, BetOnline linesmaker extraordinaire Dave Mason revealed to us that Charley Hoffman was seeing the highest betting action for this year’s PGA Championship (kicking off Thursday August 10).  Charley who?

Hoffman would pay out $4000 for every $100 bet should he win.

“Strange” was also that Mason could muster up after the odd revelation.

“As I tell everybody, I play this game not to finish second. I play to win,” Hoffman said this week. “Seconds are great, don’t get me wrong, but when you look back on the end of your career, you don’t look at how many second-place finishes you have. I’m lacking a little bit in that category, and I want to add some more to it.”

The American golfer has six professional wins under his belt and an impressive 8th place victory at this year’s US Open.

Rory McIlroy at 7/1 odds and Dustin Johnson at 11/1 odds were seeing the 2nd and 3rd most action after Hoffman.  Justin Spieth, who just won the British Open, was not seeing the most action.

Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
