Canadian Open

Some of the best golfers in the world will be in Canada this week for the Canadian Open that begins on Thursday at Royal St George’s Golf and Country Club just outside of Toronto and SBG Global is happy to present this Canadian Open betting previewfor Gambling911.com readers.

The course has hosted the Canadian Open four times but not since 1968.  Many of the favorites this week in golf odds at SBG Global played last week at the British Open so travel and fatigue could play a factor.

Sean O’Hair is the favorite at 12.5 to 1 but there are three other golfers who also have odds of less than 20-1.  Paul Casey, Luke Donald and Retief Goosen are the next three on the odds board. Goosen lost the Canadian Open last year in a playoff to Nathan Green. Casey will have to put last week’s disappointing final round behind him if he expects to contend this week.

O’Hair is the favorite but he has not won a tournament in over a year. Ricky Barnes might be a better choice since he has six top ten finishes this year. Barnes is 30-1 at SBG Global.

If you are looking for a Canadian to win this week it would make sense to consider Mike Weir. The problem with betting on Weir is that he is not playing well. He has missed four cuts in his last six starts.  Weir is 48-1. Stephen Ames has lower golf oddsat 38-1 and his chances could be better.

There are a lot of Australians who have a chance to win this week including defending champion Nathan Green.  He has not played well of late though and is not among the favorites.  The Australian contingent of Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Steve Elkington, Matt Jones and others could have a good week though with Jones an interesting longshot at 58-1.

The key stats to consider this week are greens in regulation, par 3 birdie or better leaders and approaches from 200-225 yards.  The greens at St. George’s are very tough so it will be critical to hit them on a regular basis.  Paul Casey is a leader in all three categories and if he can put last week behind him then he could win. Another player that does well in those three categories is Hunter Mahan and he has had some success at the Canadian Open in the past with a tie for fourth and a tie for fifth. Mahan is 30-1 in golf odds this week.
