The map below, courtesy of BetOnline, is based on geotagged X data since April 13, tracking tweets, hashtags and direct keyword phrases about who fans think will win the NHL Stanley Cup.
For example, "McDavid will finally get his Cup”, "The Avs will win the Stanley Cup”. Over 640,000 tweets were tracked.
The prediction map reads much more like a rooting interest map than the NBA counterpart. That’s partly due to fans having belief in their teams and upsets much more prevalent in the NHL Playoffs.
I don’t think many NBA fans in North Carolina thinks the Hornets have a shot to win the NBA title, but they sure believe in the Hurricanes.
Surprising to see more Canadian provinces picked Montreal over Edmonton.

Here's the state/province breakdown:

Boston Bruins (7): Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, NH, RI, Vermont, Nova Scotia
