Wimbledon was founded in 1877 and is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Even though it is the third Grand Slam of the year, it is probably the most prestigious of them all, much like the Masters at Augusta National in golf. It is steeped in tradition and is played on outdoor grass courts while many patrons enjoy their strawberries and cream. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club hosts the admired event and while it is a classic stadium, it has been updated in recent years. Centre Court now has a retractable roof, which helps play move along when the frequent rains of London pour in. The 2016 edition will be the 130th time that Wimbledon will be played.

Champion

The singles champion was Serbia's Novak Djokovic, who won his sixth title of 2015 and ninth career Grand Slam. He beat Switzerland's Roger Federer in four sets as the two met in the final for the second straight year. Djokovic won both and has now won Wimbledon three times, while Federer, Pete Sampras of the United States and William Renshaw of the United Kingdom have won seven times.

The doubles title went to Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania, who beat the United Kingdom's Jamie Murray and John Peers of Australia in straight sets. It was the first win of 2015 for them as a team and their first Grand Slam title together. The record for wins as a team at Wimbledon goes to Lawrence and Reginald Doherty as the United Kingdom brothers won nine times before 1905. In the Open era, the record goes to Australia's Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, who won six times.

Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam of the year and the oldest tournament in the world as it started in 1877. It is played on outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, and 2016 will be the 130th edition. Rain is usually a factor at Wimbledon, but Centre Court is equipped with a retractable roof. It should be considered the biggest event of the year on either tennis tour.

Champion

Serena Williams of the United States won her fourth title of 2015 at Wimbledon, and it was also her third Grand Slam of the year to take her career total to 21. She defeated Spain's Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to keep her quest of winning all four Grand Slams in the same year alive, and it was her sixth win at Wimbledon. That ties Williams with Germany's Steffi Graf, fellow American Billie Jean King, France's Suzanne Lenglen and Blanche Bingley of the United Kingdom; Bingley and Lenglen won theirs prior to 1925.

Dorothea Lambert Chambers of the United Kingdom won seven up to 1914, America Helen Willis Moody won eight up to 1938 and Martina Navratilova of the United States won nine in the Open era.
