The FireKeepers Casino 400 is the first race of the season at Michigan International Speedway, and it was first run in 1969. The first race was 500 miles, but the next year was shortened to a 400-mile race around Michigan, which is two miles long and shaped more like a “D” than an oval. It has 18-degree banking in the corners with 12 degrees at the start/finish line and five degrees down the backstretch, and it is a very wide track with lots of room for the drivers. Carl Edwards has the best finishing average of all active drivers in this race at 8.2, the only driver to get below 10.2. Edwards won this race back in 2007 and he has two wins already this year at Bristol and Richmond. He will take the checkered flag at Michigan.

As far as the teams go, Hendrick Motorsports has produced two wins in the last five years but three other teams won in the three other years.
