2011 Kentucky Derby Prop Bets

In addition to being able to bet on which horse will win the Derby, Sportsbook.com was offering tons of 2011 Kentucky Derby prop bets.

One of the most popular Kentucky Derby props revolves around whether a horse will go on to win the Triple Crown.  The payout – if it happens – will be $600 for every $100 bet or $60 for every $10 bet.

A winning saddle number that is odd will pay $140 for every $100 bet or $14 for every $10 bet.  Even requires a greater risk of $18.50 to win $10.

Letters A-M and N-Z pay close to even odds, respectively.

Will Secretariats 1973 Record Time be Beaten in the 2011 Kentucky Derby?  Yes Under 1:59.40 pays $1800 for every $100 bet or $180 for every $10 bet

Another of the 2011 Kentucky Derby prop bets:  Will any of the horses win two of the three Triple Crown races.  Yes pays $12 for every $10 bet.

There are even prop bets on what letter of the alphabet the winning jockey’s last name starts with and whether there will be an inquiry on the outcome of the Derby (at 2/1 odds).  No inquiry would pay out $40 for every $10 bet.

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
