This Thursday night, we are going to get the two top teams in the PAC 12 fighting each other for supremacy. The two teams are not necessarily evenly matched, but they are dangerous on the ball, even though the numbers show that Ducks have far more upside. Even so, the Oregon team will have to fly into Stanford, to a home town crowd that is known to be factor.

The Stanford Cardinal has toppled much harder teams in the past, and this could be no different, if the Ducks are not playing in top form. That is going to be tough, since Marcus Mariota is not easily emulated, to the point where Stanford’s coach has gone on record to say that he’s stuck trying to figure out how to stop the surging quarterback. That being said, The Ducks have a lead here and they are going to be flourishing if the Stanford defense lets up even for a moment. The passing defense, is not exactly high for the Cardinal, but that doesn’t mean that they are going to let up. On the rushing defense side, Stanford is ranked 10th in the nation, which could mean that the mobile, throwing quarterback from Oregon may end up having a difficult time, at least early on.
Let’s not forget that the major loss that was handed to Mariota in an overtime stunner, at home was given to him by the Cardinal. It’s that little tidbit that is going to be a thorn in the quarterback’s side, which is going to mean that he’ll have to outdo what he did last season, if he’s going to lead the Ducks to a victory against Stanford.
The Match Up:
The Cardinal hits hard, and they have been able to force turnovers from other teams, and if Mariota has a weakness, it’s going to be the overconfidence against turnovers. Mariota isn’t big on turnovers, and has protected the football in a great deal, but the Cardinal has forced these 33 straight times and could end up causing the Ducks a bit of problem on the football. This hard fought battle is going to favor Stanford as the underdog stunners. They do it every season, and this time, they’re poised to do it once again. Look for Stanford to win even if they are at +10.
