Hawks with a Big Edge

If you listen to the coaches then the edge in this series is a big one for Atlanta. They had a far better record and there is a reason they are the #1 seed. “I don’t think we have any advantage over the Hawks. That’s why they’re (60-22) and that’s why we are (38-44),” Brooklyn head coach Lionel Hollins said before the first game. “They have a very good team. We have to develop a game plan, control the tempo, rebound and score against them consistently. They’ve played well against a lot of teams, including us. So it’s not like I think we have an advantage going in. We have to have a game plan that can help us go out and compete against them.” The Hawks were a profitable 26-15 against the spread during the regular season. The Nets were decent on the road against the spread in the regular season at 23-18.

Game Notes

The Nets do have some players who could give Atlanta trouble including Brook Lopez who averaged 18.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game against the Hawks during the regular season. And Brooklyn also has former Hawk Joe Johnson who will want to play well against his former team. The Hawks had taken six of the past ten meetings before the first game of this series with the past three going over. They had owned the Nets in Atlanta, winning 8 of the last 10 and covering six of the last ten with three of the past four going over the total. The Over is 8-3 in the Nets last 11 Conference Quarterfinals games. The Under is 5-1 in the Hawks last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games. The Under is 9-4 in the Hawks last 13 vs. the Atlantic.

The road team in this series is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
