Current line: MSU +6 ½  / Over & Under at 40 ½

Time:  Saturday, September 21, 3:30 pm (EST)  NBC

Summary:

Michigan State is going to have their hands full against a very good Notre Dame squad. The team will have to fight to stay alive in hostile territory in what could be a sleeper game of the week for some analysts. Connor Cook will have to have the game of his life in order to emerge on top in a trip to Notre Dame that will not be one to miss.

Rewind quickly to last year’s loss for Michigan State, they were missing one of their key defensive players in Fou Fonoti, a player that could have implications for this Saturday’s game. He will be back and as a senior, he will be playing, and will be hungry to get a serious win on the Irish. There is some controversy going into the game with the tackle situation at MSU and while the best players will play, according to the coach, we’ll see if the revolving players can take out a Fighting Irish team that is hard to beat on their home turf.

Let’s not give the Irish too much here, some analysts have called their offensive flurry “ugly” at best. That’s a good sentiment as they are not the Irish of yesteryear, but still pack a mighty punch. The MSU offense isn’t grand, but the defensive win will give the Irish a bit of an edge. If there are no turnovers, this game could get interesting, but it has the capacity of being less than thrilling. That being said, look for some major hits, as the lumber will need to be brought in order to have either side gain an advantage.

The Match Up:

We are going to see an interesting game here, one that may in fact come down to an even handed battle. However, with the home turf of the Irish and some questionable moves off the field with MSU, analysts may be right in calling it ugly. Even so, there seems to be enough of a draw here to let the underdog have a day in the sun, if they play perfect. Will they play perfect? That’s the million dollar question it seems, and therefore we’re going to go with the underdog. Even though Notre Dame has an upside, they will have a hard time against the MSU team in this one, and even if the twelfth man will be a factor, MSU is hungry. We’ll have to wait and see how the scoring goes too, we’re going with under 40 1/2.

The Edge

Our pick is MSU + 6 ½
