Alabama Crimson Tide -9.5

Michigan State Spartans +9.5

Total 49

Alabama Crimson Tide 12-1 SU, 7-6 ATS

The Crimson Tide won the SEC this season and they will have a chance to win another national title. The Tide feature an offense led by Heisman Trophy contender Derrick Henry and a dominating defense. Alabama averaged just over 34 points per game this season which ranked 34th in the country. They allowed just over 14 points per contest which was 3rd best in the nation. The Tide have a high profile so they are oftentimes overvalued. They went just 7-6 ATS this season in their 13 games. The Tide went under the total in 8 of their 13 games.

Michigan State Spartans 12-1 SU, 5-7-1 ATS

The Spartans were able to win the Big Ten title game as they scored late to defeat Iowa and reach the College Football Playoffs. The Spartans lost just once this season and you can make a case they should have no losses as they got a bad call that cost them the win against Nebraska. Michigan State was a bit overvalued just like Alabama as the Spartans were just 5-7-1 ATS. The Spartans have similar numbers to Alabama as they score 32 points per game and allow about 20 points per contest. The Spartans went under in 7 of their 13 games this season.

In 1989, Mobil became the first ever sponsor of the game played in the Texas Cotton Bowl, which continued until 1995. When the game went unsponsored in 1996, it reverted back to its original Cotton Bowl name, but in 1997 Southwestern Bell / SBC communications took over and kept their association until last year. This year, Goodyear Tires has become the third ever sponsor, and with their first involvement in bowl games, we will now refer to this game as the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
