Sporttrade, a Philadelphia-based sports betting operator, on Thursday announced the Sporttrade iOS App is now live in its fifth state: Virginia.

Like with all regulated sports betting apps in the commonwealth of Virginia, bets on in-state schools like the Hokies and Cavaliers will be unavailable.  Betting on games that feature in-state schools are also prohibited.  Offshore sportsbooks and local bookies still accept bets on these schools from Virginia.

Sporttrade becomes the 12th regulated sports wagering app in Virginia.

“We are incredibly proud to keep the Fall 2024 momentum going with our launch in the Commonwealth” said Alex Kane, Sporttrade Founder and CEO. “There is an appetite for premium betting in Virginia, for significantly better prices at higher limits, for instant in-play betting, and a mobile experience that’s sleek and intuitive. ”

“Sporttrade is becoming the home of in-game betting, where players are able to place and cash out of bets, frictionlessly, as the probabilities shift. ” said Kane. “Thank you to the Virginia Lottery, thank you to our players, partners, and investors, and most of all, I want to thank the Sporttrade family of employees."

Qualified and eligible players will be able to place bets in Virginia on the Sporttrade iOS application while plans to launch on Android are set for later this year.

Sporttrade is different from traditional sportsbooks in that, In general across main markets, you will notice about half the vig that other sportsbooks offer (so about -105 pregame, and -107 in-game).

Per the website: "While Sporttrade is the counterparty to all your wagers (we hold your funds, pay you out when you win, etc), we source the prices from many places, including from licensed trading teams."
