Upset in Atlantic City Mayoral Race One More Reason for Christie to Celebrate

Republican Don Guardian stunned almost everyone in an upset win to unseat longtime incumbent Mayor Democrat Lorenzo Langford.  Guardian was a long shot to win in the seaside gambling mecca.

"I'm going to open the doors of communication with our governor and create an atmosphere where we can attract new jobs and investment to Atlantic City," he said.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Langford engaged in heated rhetoric that made national headlines after the Governor accused Atlantic City’s Mayor of failing to impose mandatory evacuations during Super Storm Sandy.

Christie himself won re-election in the state by a wide margin.

He commented on Guardian’s victory - or should we say Langford’s defeat – as only Chris Christie knows how to do.

"I'm grateful that Lorenzo Langford is gone and that should be no shock for anybody. We have not had a good relationship over the course of the last four years. I think he's been a negative force for Atlantic city, I think he was a negative force for evacuation for hurricane sandy. And so the fact that the people of Atlantic city have agreed with me that they need a new mayor is a good thing for the city of Atlantic city."

Christie has been working hard to make Atlantic City a major hub for online gambling, with sites due to launch for real money by month’s end.
