Kristi Noem

The first big departure for the Donald Trump Administration as Homeland Security Secretary Krisi Noem has been fired Thursday.

Noem is the first Cabinet secretary to leave during Trump’s second term.

At Kalshi, just 32% of traders believed she would be gone before the summer.  While that number grew to over 40% on Wednesday, her chances of sticking around were still pretty good prior to Thursday's shocking news.

Kalshi's market specifically references Noem being out as Homeland Security Secretary.  She'll still be part of Trump's administration, assuming the role of “Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas,” a new security initiative that he said would focus on the Western Hemisphere.

Trump made the announcement via his Truth Social platform.

Noem took the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, to address a law enforcement event moments after Trump’s announcement but made no immediate mention of her Department of Homeland Security ouster. Instead, she read from prepared remarks, including reinforcing Trump’s message from the State of the Union last month.

Noem has faced waves of criticism as she’s overseen Trump’s immigration crackdown, especially since the shooting deaths of two protesters in Minneapolis at the hands of immigration enforcement officers. The former South Dakota governor was also criticized over the way her department has spent billions of dollars allocated to it by Congress.

BetOnine was expected to offer odds related to this matter shortly including the next hammer to fall as Attorney General Pam Bondi gets set to testify under subpoena in front of a House Committee.
