Yahoo has taken the drastic step of shutting down its online poker room after launching just one month ago. The company cited security concerns in its decision.  Yahoo Poker will be closed effective December 31.

“Changes in supporting technologies and increased security requirements for our Yahoo web pages” have rendered the game “incompatible, insecure, and no longer functioning correctly,” the company affirmed Monday.

Yahoo had been advertising its new online Texas Hold’em game heavily in conjunction with its fantasy offerings.

The Yahoo web page makes mention of a move towards introducing new online casino games without specifically naming poker.
