A three-time gold ring winner in World Series of Poker circuit events, Chan Pelton, is under investigation for allegedly pocketing a T25,000 chip from the WSOP Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club in Florida.

“Yesterday, after Event 9, the $1,125 No-Limit Hold’em event concluded, tournament staff discovered a player had removed chips from the chip set being used in the event,” WSOP's Jess Welman  revealed on her blog. “The Palm Beach Kennel Club and local gaming authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the event and the player's eligibility.”

Pelton reportedly claimed to want the chip as a souvenir while many in the poker community speculated more ominous intentions, primarily to use it in the WSOP circuit’s $1,675  Main Event.

The prize money for Pelton’s third tournament win have been froze while the investigation is ongoing.

Police also discovered marijuana in Pelton’s car, which he confessed to an intent to distribute.

The incident comes one month after a North Carolina man was arrested for introducing counterfeit chips during the Borgata Winter Open in Atlantic City.
