Poker Stimulus Package

With the economy in complete disarray, everyone is looking for an economic stimulus package, and the poker world is no exception.

"The demand for the Stimulus Special could be felt the moment we announced it," said World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. "We welcome all the first-time players to the World Series of Poker and wish everyone good luck in their pursuit of a gold bracelet."

So what exactly is the World Series of Poker Stimulus Special?

It is a $1000 buy-in tournament that attracted a remarkable 6000 plus entrants.  The Stimulus Special sold out and has since been deemed one of the most successful WSOP events to date.

The nominal risk could lead to a significant reward.  With so many entrants taking part, the grand prize would pay out just shy of $800,000.

"If we had a three-day opening, we could have had 9,000 players," said World Series of Poker spokesman Seth Palansky.

The final table of this event takes place Wednesday with nine players earning six figure jackpots.  The 2nd place finisher will actually leave with $473,283.
