Four individuals were killed in the market during a hostage standoff.  Police identified the man who stormed the Hyper Cacher grocery store in Porte de Vincennes, a Jewish community in the 12th arrondissement, as 32-year-old Amedy Coulibaly, an Islamic fundamentalist.

Ktorza’s wife was in an adjacent store at the time of the attack.

“She was buying bread,” Ktorza, told the BBC.  “When she get in she hear the big noise and she tried to get out to see what happened.”

At that time she realized there was someone shooting.  His wife remained held up in the neighboring store for two hours waiting for the police to come for them.

Ktorza has enjoyed great success on the live poker circuit.  The 51-year-old has won just shy of $1.6 million in career earnings.
