It was revealed yesterday that PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, the online poker industry's two largest sites, have both recently updated their operating software. Though software updates are fairly common, these two in particular are quite note worthy because some of the changes have rendered certain 3rd party software programs useless. In fact, it is believed that several of the applications will need to update their software in order to become compatible once again.

Full Tilt Poker's software updates were made in order to alleviate some serious problems being reported by players using Macs. Some users had been reporting unacceptable lag time while trying to log into the site. However, a more serious issue which was addressed were instances where Mac users would be dealt one or more cards facedown, making them unknown. Other users were repeatedly losing connections to the game servers. Both of these issues were causing players to lose money they had already paid to the pot.

PokerStars meanwhile had some different issues in addition to their own lag time problem. The most noteworthy of the changes are the awarding of partial Frequent Player Points and synchronizing breaks for multi-tables tournaments. These were part of a major update occurring in August.

The changes have directly affected various 3rd party software platforms in different ways. A player tracking site called, PlayerGPS.com no longer works on Full Tilt while hand history tracking such as PokerTracker have been working around the clock to update their software to jeep them compatible. Some of these applications have had to come out with as many as 3 updates to keep them compatible.
