Originally it had been reported that Stephany Flores only won a small amount at the Atlantic City Casino in Lima, Peru, where she met Dutchman Joran van der Sloot.  Now there are reports that Flores actually won a significant amount of money that evening and could have been specifically targeted by van der Sloot.

Flores was beaten to death later that evening in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot.

The Dutchman, who for years has been the primary suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, escaped to neighboring Chile where he was later apprehended and confessed to murdering the 21-year-old student.

Flores reportedly won big but her winnings, jewelry and money were not found when her body was discovered three days later.  Fox News is reporting that she could have won as much as $10,000.  Flores was known to frequent casinos and play poker on a regular basis.  Joran was in Lima to attend the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT).

It was the casino surveillance that initially picked up Ms. Flores sitting beside van der Sloot at one of the game tables.
