ONCHAN, ISLE OF MAN – PokerStars announced today that it has become one of the first regulated online poker operators in Germany, having been granted a license from the German state of Schleswig-Holstein.

PokerStars will soon offer real money cash games and tournaments under the new license, enabling players to test their poker skills against the global community of online poker players for fun and for profit.

“By opening up the market, Schleswig-Holstein has demonstrated its understanding of German players’ needs and the prevailing market reality,” said Guy Templar, Head of Business Development at PokerStars. “Thanks to Schleswig-Holstein gambling law (GlüG S-H), consumer protection, jobs and regulation can be reliably implemented.”

PokerStars, which has more than 50 million registered accounts, holds seven online gaming licenses in France, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Estonia, Malta and the Isle of Man, making it the most regulated poker company in the world.

Schleswig-Holstein gambling legislation follows the successful Danish regulation model, which came into force at the beginning of 2012 and allows for the addition of international online tournaments that greatly increases PokerStars’ product range in Germany.
