Poker pro Mike “The Mouth” Matusow just underwent major spinal surgery and the prognosis appears to be good. Matusow should be able to walk again, media outlets are reporting.
The four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner known for his sharp wit and outspoken candor encountered “serious complications” during the surgery.
It was feared that as a result of the complications, Matusow may be paralysed, but thankfully that worst case scenario is now regarded as highly unlikely, PokerStrategy.com reported.
Few were aware Matusow had been set to undergo the spinal surgery let alone why it was warranted.
Matusow is both one of the most controversial and beloved figures in the world of poker. In the past he has had to fight off personal demons including drug addiction and brief stints in prison for providing ecstasy and prescription painkillers to an undercover police officer.
