Americas Cardroom confirmed today with Gambling911.com that it will be offering the first ever online poker free buy-in Super Series with $150,000 in guaranteed money to be won.
Has ACR CEO Phil Nagy completely lost his mind?
“This is the best conversion tool,” he tells Gambling911.
Nagy expects to pay anywhere between $50,000 and $75,000 on the entire event but he sees this as more of a loss leader that will drive new customers to the site.
And once they’re playing at Americas Cardroom, they’ll keep coming back for more.
Nagy cited the uber popular Candy Crush business model in which players take part for free or a nominal fee then begin upgrading once they’ve become addicted.
“We will likely get from 30,000 to 40,000 new signups over the days this tournament will take place. And we only need to convert 5% of this number to make this event profitable.”
The tournament itself, comprising of some 50 plus events over a period from May 8 through May 17 – is based on PokerStars Micro Millions concept.
“We went below micro, we went to free,” Nagy said. “When Stars held its Micro Millions tournament, the rest of the industry took a hit. Everybody who played online poker was going to PokerStars for that event.”
Unlike PokerStars, AmericasCardRoom does cater to those players throughout North America and the rest of the world.
Americas Cardroom has seen its traffic go up 75% over the last six months.
“I expect to grow another 50% just from this event alone,” Nagy forecast.
