83-year-old Texas poker icon Doyle Brunson made a huge announcement just before midnight Thursday via Twitter and Gambling911.com was there on the spot to capture it.

The big announcement:

Got a call from Texas to be inducted into the Big Country Athletic Hall Of Fame I'm honored to be in with Sammy Baugh, Bulldog Turner, etc.

Congrats to Doyle.

In 1988 and 1989, the Abilene Independent School District started a sports Hall of Fame, inducting 10 inaugural members.  The AISD Hall of Fame was disbanded after two years. Then, in 2002, the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame began as an effort to honor the outstanding high school athletes and coaches from a nineteen-county area surrounding Abilene.

Before he was known for his poker prowess, Brunson was part of the All-State Texas basketball team. In the 1950 Texas Interscholastic Track Meet Brunson won the one-mile event with a time of 4:43.
