Denial of Service Attacks Strike Equity Poker Network, Other Sites Affected

Following this past weekend’s Denial of Service attacks on Americas Cardroom resulting in the cancellation of the massive Winning Millions tournament, another North American online poker network has confirmed they too have been subjected to the attacks.

For players at EPN’s flagship online poker room, Full Flush Poker (“FFP”), the DDOS Attacks have resulted in quick disconnections from the Game Server and subsequent temporary interruptions to tournament and cash game play at various times. These outages have mostly been short-lived of 30-60 seconds, and the small number of player issues dealt with quickly and efficiently by FFP’s Customer Support.

The recent spate of attacks is reminiscent of what occurred nearly ten years ago when online gambling sites across the globe fell victim to Denial of Service attacks.  In those cases, attackers would often demand money from said sites and some would pay the price.  Interpol eventually got involved and arrested the culprits.

A Denial of Service Attack is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users.  The most common types of of DoS attacks is one in which a multitude of compromised systems attack a single target.

Equity Poker, home of FullFlushPoker.com, released a statement Tuesday morning.

“ We are working behind the scenes to strengthen the Network mechanisms and structures necessary to deal with such assaults on our operations, and we hope to reach a solution shortly that will fix the outages our Network’s Operators and their players have had to endure during recent times,” said an EPN Spokesperson.

“We are pleased that the existing software and infrastructures already in place have successfully defended the data from infiltration, and that the impact on players, while frustrating, has been confined to the disconnections from the Game Server, rather than on compromising the privacy and safety of their personal data.”

“We will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard the security of our Network, and to protect our players and the integrity of their data.”

The DDOS attacks at EPN have occurred intermittently across the past six weeks, causing some short-term disruptions to Network connectivity, and frustrating poker room outages.

EPN has assured all Network Operators that the security of its data remains uncompromised, and that they are working to mitigate the affect on the Network’s online poker playing community.
