Over 120 poker players have signed a letter of protest against the Commerce Casino for its opposition to H.R. 2267, legislation that would legalize Internet poker.

The powerful Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is leading the effort to mobilize against the popular casino and U.S. largest poker room.

“Members of the PPA, and poker players nationwide, are outraged that the Commerce Casino, the largest poker room in the nation, opposes Federal legislation that would protect players’ rights and access to online poker,” commented John Pappas, executive director of the PPA.  “The (the poker players) are angry and want to make their voices heard.”

According to the PPA, The Commerce Casino’s opposition is a result of the establishment’s desire to have California-only licensing and regulation that would essentially create a monopoly market in that state.  The PPA points out that intra-state licensing legislation means California residents would only be able to play with California websites.

“The poker community has been fighting tooth and nail for years for a safe, regulated online poker industry in the United States, and it is disheartening to see one of our own turn its back on this effort – and the safety of players – in order to maximize their own profits,” continued Pappas.  “I urge all poker players to contact Commerce Casino and express your disappointment.”

An outright boycott of the Commerce Casino by members of the Poker Players Alliance may also be in the cards should the casino’s stance remain unchanged.
