For those of you looking for bipartisanship in Congress, look no further than the debate over legalization of online poker in the US.

Tuesday morning featured a hearing in the .S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee for Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade to discuss the issue and listen to witness testimony.  Legalized Internet poker is expected to bring billions of dollars to a troubled US economy and members from both sides of the aisle tend to agree.

In recent years, the GOP tended to stand for prohibition.  The likes of Republican Arizona Senator Jon Kyl and then Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist helped push through the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).  Alabama Republican Representative Spencer Bachus has been among the most outspoken voice against legalization in recent years.

Today, Kyl has indicated he is willing to accept regulation in the US while Texas Republican Joe Barton, a poker player himself, has helped draft the measure that could lead to legalized Internet poker.  Past bills were co-sponsored by the likes of US Presidential candidate, Texas Congressman Ron Paul.
