Amarillo Slim Still Alive and ‘Fighting Hard’: Brunson Says His “Goodbye”

Poker icon Doyle Brunson revealed he had spoken to Amarillo Slim late Thursday following rumors of him imminent death.

Brunson tweeted:

Just talked to Amarillo Slim. He is in (a) hospice but is fighting hard. Tears came to my eyes as we said bye.

Brunson tweeted earlier in the day that he had heard rumors that Amarillo Slim, whose real name is Thomas Preston, Jr., passed away.

The 83-year-old has four World Series of Poker bracelets under his belt with his most recent win in 1990.  He won the 1972 World Series of Poker Main Event.
