OMAHA (Gambling911.com) - The Nebraska Senate race was one of those that was starting to look more grim for the Republicans with the midterms fast approaching. Incumbent Senator Pete Ricketts odds had shifted from -300 to -250. But as of Saturday evening, they shot back up to -325. Certainly a good sign for the GOP. The -325 number represents a 76% probability, whereas the -250 was bordering on 70%.
Rickets holds a 6-point lead over Independent, Dan Osborn, according to a new poll from The New York Times and Siena University.
The survey of 809 likely Nebraska voters found Ricketts leading independent challenger Dan Osborn 49% to 43%, a six-point advantage.
The Senate contest has drawn national attention because Osborn, a former labor union leader, has sought to challenge Ricketts without running under either major party's banner.
The race is seen as a test of how independents may fare in an environment where both parties’ brands have become politically toxic, and Democrats appear to be supporting Osborn.
More than half of voters — 55 percent — say they see Mr. Osborn, a union leader, as more of a Democrat than anything else. Just one third of voters say they consider him to be an independent.
