OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - The Little League World Series continues Monday with Panama taking on Canada.
Panama is a huge -740 favorite in this one.
The game starts at 1 pm EDT.
Panama has played only once in Williamsport, losing 6-4 to Nicaragua on Friday. That's a more respectable result than it might initially appear: Nicaragua has looked like one of the stronger international teams. Panama was competitive and showed some offense, including a game-tying RBI triple from Bryant Quintero and a two-run first-inning single from Dominick Saavedra Araúz.
Players to watch include shortstop Bryant Quintero and outfielder Dominick Saavedra Araúz.
Quintero delivered the game-tying RBI triple against Nicaragua while Araúz drove in two runs with a first-inning single against Nicaragua, helping Panama demonstrate immediately that it wasn't intimidated by the Latin America champion.
Little Mountain (Canada) was overwhelmed 7-0 by South Korea in its opener but responded extremely well Saturday, shutting out Australia 4-0 to stay alive.
Felix Hoyano — 3B/P is widely seen as Canada's biggest threat. Against Australia, Hoyano threw 5⅔ scoreless innings in the 4-0 elimination-game victory. That's exactly the kind of performance Canada needed after being shut out by South Korea.
Betting on this year's Little League World Series is not without its controversy.
The Little League World Series issued the following statement to Gambling911.com:
"Little League International stands by its statement first issued last year that there is no place for betting on Little League games and players or any youth sports competition. Little League is a trusted place where children are learning the fundamentals of the games and all the important life lessons that come with having fun, celebrating teamwork, and playing with integrity, and no one should be exploiting the success and failures of children playing the game they love for their own personal gain."
"We're not here to say whether gambling on 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds is right or wrong, that's up for you to decide (and possibly write about), we're just delivering the information," BetOnline Brand Manager Dave Mason tells Gambling911.com.
