Odds to win the Men's Slalom - Marcel Hirscher Favorite
Odds to win the Men's Slalom Thursday had Marcel Hirscher 1/2 odds to win the gold.
Hirscher, an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer, went into Sunday's race as a heavy favorite as one of the most successful skiers of his generation, winning his second gold medal.
"Wow. It was not so easy to be the absolute favorite in this discipline, then sitting up there as the leader from the first run knowing that Henrik (Kristoffersen) ripped it. I had no choice, I knew I have to give 100% and I have to go into this battle," Hirscher said, reflecting on his win.
Norwegian alpine skiier Henrik Kristoffersen had the second shortest odds of taking home the gold in this Thursday's event.
He won the silver behind Hirscher on Sunday.
“Some people say when you are second in the Olympics you don’t win the silver, you lose the gold, but today I won the silver,” the Norwegian told reporters.
“Marcel is at the moment unbeatable in GS (giant slalom). I‘m for sure going to train as hard as I can and fight as much as I can to beat him one day but at the moment he’s just much better than anyone else.”
